F1 Report - Unstoppable Vettel

F1 Report - Unstoppable Vettel

Author: Tomas Yoko

Formula 1 and the street circuit in Singapore was awash with hot rubber and even hotter action. Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel showed a level of dominance some would prefer not to see in the F1 arena when he clinched his seventh victory of the season, one of three in a row.

The only challenge Vettel faced during the entire race was when Rosberg beat him to the first corner. But Rosberg's line was less than perfect and Vettel slipped past him and was nearly two second ahead of him after the first lap.

By the end of the second lap Vettel had opened the gap up to just over four seconds. The only chance came when Daniel Ricciardo caused chaos and the safety car was brought out. However Vettel was not to be phased in the slightest and was over 3 seconds ahead of the rest by the end of the first clear lap.

Second place went to a feisty Spanish performance for Ferrari by Fernando Alonso and third place was very well deserved by Kimi Raikkonen in his Lotus.

Again the tyre issue was paramount as a whole host of drivers chose to pit during the safety car laps and changed to medium tyres, which found them nursing their rubber to the chequered flag.

With the points as they are, there are six races left in the season, which means a maximum of 150 points for the driver who takes first place in all six races. Vettel leads by 60 points with his tally of 247, trailed by Alonso with 187 and Hamilton in third on 151. Fourth place is held by Raikkonen with 149 and Webber has 130.

In the constructor's championship Red Bull are over 100 points ahead on 377, Ferrari follows with 274 and Mercedes has 267. The next race is the Korean Grand Prix in Yeongam on Sunday October the 6th.
