Dyllan and Viki- The team behind the couple
No strangers to the camera, the pair are the visionaries responsible for a host of inspiring and insightful sport and cultural documentaries as well as videos for broadcast and corporate use.
Through their production company, Imagine Afrika Productions, the pair have produced work for, and assisted on a number of shows for Carte Blanche, NatGeo, BBC, the UN and The Smithsonian.
Dyllan and Viki met as teenagers and their mutual zeal for adventure set them on a journey peppered with travel, new business ventures, discovery and growth.
Their most public adventure, which unfolded on South African television screens, saw the couple use the local reality show as a platform to strengthen their ailing relationship.
Now the pair is set to use their journey to offer advice, support and insight to others through the launch of a blog focussed on relationships and healthy family living which incorporates a web series, whilst also exploring places and people through local experiences.
"Our blog is designed to be a fun and helpful. It offers advice, chronicles our journey and lessons as a couple and parents, and showcases KZN's hidden gems through our family adventures," says Viki.
"We've received such an overwhelming response to our story and are constantly contacted by people seeking our advice; but we welcome it because part of the reason that we spoke openly about our relationship was so that others would not feel so isolated," Viki explains.
At home the thrill seekers and parents-of-two include their six-year-old son Tai and two-year-old daughter Hanna in their unceasing quest for adventure.
Their active lifestyles have been instilled in their children by frequently adventuring along the waterways of KZN, surfing, hiking and exploring as a family.
"We are extremely passionate about KZN and constantly take trips of discovery together. Most afternoons we try and find a remote place close to our home in Salt Rock where the kids are free to explore, play, swim and ride their bikes," says Dyllan.
But Dyllan's love for the outdoors spans beyond recreation with his family - his in-depth knowledge of KZN's North coast will soon see him brave the waves at the Ballito Pro ensuring the safety of participants at the famed surf event.
Dyllan is part of five-man team which expertly navigates the unpredictable surf on jet skis escorting participants between massive waves.
The practice became necessary in 2011 when a big swell with waves peaking from 10 to 12 feet hit the North Coast and threatened to scupper the event.
Rather than cancel the event the organiser decided to use jet skis to safely transport the participants through the pounding surf.
"This meant that surfers could get picked up after their wave and towed back to the line up without having to contest the dangerous conditions alone," Smith explains.
The super team have earned the praise of the surfing community and spectators but according to Smith the greatest reward is the continued support of their families.
"It's a great family event for us. The kids love seeing Dyl in action and are just so proud of him. When it gets really big though I do get incredibly nervous for the guys, but having witnessd their skills in massive surf I have every faith in their capabilites" says Viki.
Here are some of Dyllan and Viki's favourite spots in KZN:
