It's Carnival time for KZN!

It's Carnival time for KZN!

Date: 2014-04-25
The Carnaval International de Victoria in the Seychelles will have a distinct KwaZulu-Natal flavour this year, as a multi-disciplinary delegation heads off to the annual celebration. KwaZulu-Natal is a part sponsor in this year's Carnival as it provides an ideal opportunity to showcase the province as both a tourism and investment destination.

Chairman of Tourism KwaZulu-Natal, Sadha Naidoo, said that the event provided a vehicle to create business linkages, through the business exhibition that forms part of the Carnival. "In addition to exhibiting, we will also be hosting a breakfast seminar which will focus on potential trade linkages and opportunities, both with the Seychelles as well as amongst other participating countries. "Furthermore, we see the Carnival becoming an extension of our existing cross-border programme, the East3Route which was established in 2011.

This is a programme between KwaZulu-Natal, Mozambique and Swaziland that aims to showcase investment opportunities in the three regions and to boost tourism and trade between us. Thus, the Seychelles Carnival is an ideal extension to this initiative," said Naidoo. The Carnival, which takes place in the city of Victoria, also includes a parade of colourful floats, and participants are expected from some of the world's most prestigious carnivals. "Whilst we don't have a Carnival locally, we will certainly ensure that KwaZulu-Natal is centre stage for the procession as we will showcase our vibrant cultural diversity with a Zulu, Indian and European traditional dance troupe.

"The Carnival will also be an opportunity for us to celebrate 20 years of democracy and reflect upon the freedom we are now all able to enjoy," said Naidoo. In addition to the dance troupe, delegates from Tourism KwaZulu-Natal, Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal, the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board and the Department of Economic Development & Tourism will attend the Carnival, which takes place from 25 - 29 April.
