Heritage Museum Envisioned for Tongaat
Heritage Museum Envisioned for Tongaat
Tongaat's heritage practitioner and author of books on Indentured Indian history, Tholsi Mudly, has set her sights on establishing a heritage museum in Tongaat. After much research on the history of Tongaat she has now been inspired to tell the world about this illustrious history of Tongaat.
The town of Tongaat isideally placed near the King Shaka Airport to attract domestic and international tourists. The archeological caves located a few kilometers away from Tongaat, the profound contributions made by some of our residents towards the freedom struggle, sports and in other arenas is definitely worth a stop over for visitors.
Tholsi Mudly has already begun to lobby the KZN Department of Arts and Culture and has received an optimistic response. Members of the community who share in this vision are welcome to contact her for further discussions and settle on a date for a meeting to formalise this concept.
Many communities in Tongaat have celebrated great milestones and are in possession of invaluable artefacts, information and a rich oral history. This is a wonderful opportunity to preserve these for posterity for future generations to know about the tremendous sacrifices and endeavours made by their predecessors.
