Mayor enjoys public contributions on draft budget

Mayor enjoys public contributions on draft budget

Date: 2013-04-18
KWADUKUZA Mayor, Ricardo Mthembu welcomes the vibrant and robust public contributions in the on-going Integrated Development plan (IDP) and Budget Roadshows.

The latest Mayoral Roadshow visit to Stanger Manor (Ward 17) last Thursday and Driefontein (Ward 21) on Sunday follows the tabling of the R1.2 billion draft budget for the 2013/2014 financial year.

Mthembu has welcomed the robust and vigourous inputs that are being contributed by KwaDukuza communities.' He said these contributions will not only help the government to identify and set key priorities in its community development plans, but will also help improve government's response to key issues.

"Our municipality is driven by transparency, we enjoy constructive criticism, such information is important as we map out our development programmes on our IDP. "These inputs give us a clear map on how we will organize our spending in this year's budget,' Mthembu pronounced.

Mthembu together with his high level officials have embarked on a series of consultation visits to all KwaDukuza's 27 wards, to map out their expenditure plans for the forthcoming financial year.

The process will lead up to the final drafting of the budget for the financial year that begins in July this year.

The Mayor further affirmed that the roadshows are going smoothly; he described the inputs as reasonable and compelling.

"I am delighted about the inputs that are being made in our development plans as we visit all 27 wards'. "This is an indication that these Roadshows are effective and they will affect the way we review and plot our programmes going forward', said Mthembu the local Operation Sukuma Sakhe champion.

The Roadshow commenced at the beginning of April, six (6) Wards have been visited to date, Mthembu has praised the co-operation of communities.

"I'm happy that the roadshows are peaceful. The co-operation that has played out in the wards to date is laudable. This is an indication that the public understands the challenges facing government and its tireless efforts in dealing with them. As we plot our service delivery plans for the financial year, we need to work together with communities to achieve our developmental goals.

"I am confident that the information we gather in our roadshows will make a positive impact on how the KwaDukuza Municipality delivers to the people it serves. I encourage everyone to participate in this process, in exercise of their right to influence government decisions for the improvement of government service delivery.
