Hospice

Hospice

Date: 2014-01-17
Khanya Hospice staff welcoming a new Dutch Volunteer, Ellen Drijber. From left to right, Sr Sue van Rijsbergen, Nursing Manager at Khanya Hospice, Sr Wendy Pickering, Nursing sister, care giver Thabile Dlamini. Ellen Drijber a qualified professional nurse from the Netherlands with Sr N C Mbatha also a qualified nursing sister at Hospice with CEO, Neil McDonald. Ellen came to volunteer her services at Hospice in Umkomaas. Her father and her sister are General Practitioners back at home and her mother a qualified lawyer.

Having a heart for the patients and patient care, Ellen was inspired by what she read on the webpage about Hospice and decided this is where she would like to come and volunteer for one month. Not used to this kind of summer days, Ellen just loves the hot summer days, drinking up as much sun as what she can get and making the best of the weekends. Hospice offers free palliative nursing care to people with life threatening diseases and support to their families.

People can donate to Hospice clothes, bric-a-brac, furniture, garden tools, and what-have-you-to-give-away. We have 3 shops where we sell the donated goods and that helps us sustain the free care that we offer, says Neil. Hospice can be contacted on 039973 1783/0277
