Date: 2012-07-25
Equestrian action continues in Durban from Wednesday 1 - Sunday 5 August, as show jumpers from around the country and Swaziland, return to surf city for The Show Jumping Championships of South Africa.

The event, which forms part of the popular City of Durban Sunshine Tour, takes place in the heart of the city at the Cyril Geoghan Stadium, adjacent to the Mr Price Kings Park Stadium. The Tour comprises three events: The World Cup Qualifier which took place in June 2012, The Show Jumping Championships of South Africa and the KwaZulu-Natal Grand Prix.

2011 SA Show Jumping Championship winner, Jodi Pieters of Drummond in KwaZulu-Natal, looks set to defend her title following great success this year, including winning the second leg of the 2012 World Cup Qualifier, held recently at Shongweni.

Nine of the top ten-ranked South African riders have already entered the show, including Shaun and Gareth Neill (Gauteng); Barry Taylor (Gauteng); Lorette Knowles-Taylor (Gauteng), Grant Langley (KZN); Jade Hooke (EP); Ashley Hausberger (Gauteng) and Dominey Alexander (Gauteng), who is back in the saddle of Alzu Barracuda after a long injury break.

Local favorites, Phillipa Baxter (Howick); Kerry Muir (Mount Edgecombe), Alwin van Breda (La Lucia), Michelle Green (Shongweni), Heather Mostert (Hillcrest) and Colin Ferreira (Shongweni), will also be amongst the line-up.

FREE ENTRY TO THE PUBLIC!
Admission to the shows, which run from 9.00am to 4.00pm daily (Wed 1 - Sun 5 Aug), is free of charge and there will be refreshments available. Sunday 5 August will be the most exciting day for spectators with The South African Championship finals taking place from 9.00am. The main 1.50metre Open Class will kick off at approximately 11.30am.

The event is being hosted by C&S Shows. Show Director, Sue Pieters, has been hosting shows in KwaZulu-Natal for the past eighteen years.
