Mercedes-Benz and Nico Win Again

Mercedes-Benz and Nico Win Again

Date: 2016-05-06
Mercedes-Benz and Nico Rosberg took Russia by storm this weekend when Nico crossed the finish line to the rustle of the checkered flag in Sochi, for the seventh successive time and his fourth successive win this season. This puts Nico Rosberg in the elite group of F1 drivers that includes Alberto Ascari, Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel and places him 43 points ahead of his closest rival. This makes it the tenth win in a row for Mercedes-Benz since Japan in 2015, just one win shy of McLarens record.

The Sochi Grand Prix was once again full of action packed racing when just two turns into the race, Daniil Kvyat once again was involved in a collision, this time very much his fault when he misjudged his braking and locked up his rear wheels, running into the much beleaguered Sebastian Vettel.

Lewis Hamilton drove an exceptional race to make it Mercedes-Benzs 30th one-two finish in Formula 1.

After Vettel seemed to suffer either a puncture or suspension failure that caused him to slow rapidly in front of Kvyat, causing a second collision that effectively put paid to Vettels race. His teammate Kimi Raikkonen did Ferrari proud with third podium.

Renault benefitted from the bashings at the second and third turns in lap 1 and after holding10th and 11th positions for a while managed to get the Dane away to take 7th position.

As it stands Mercedes-Benz driver Nico leads with 100 points, his teammate Lewis trails with 57, Kimi holds Ferrari in third on 43 points and Daniel has Red Bull in fourth place with 36.

The next F1 meet is on the weekend of the 13th to the 15th of May in Catalunya, Spain. If you miss out then check this F1 Report brought to you by Infiniti of Pinetown.
