Patin Classic Galicia Pro launched
PLAYA DE PANTIN, Galicia - Spain and in Women's month the women's QS6,000 Pull&Bear Pantin Classic Galicia Pro launched in good three foot surf and ran through the opening three rounds of the event. It was a day for the goofy foots who absolutely dominated most the heats in Round Three.
The reigning World Junior Champion Vahine Fierro (PYF) advanced through her first two heats in Pantin and posted an excellent 8 point ride this afternoon, one of the highest numbers of the day. The far right corner of the beach started pulsing a reef-like perfect little right which Fierro proceeded to dismantle on her backhand for her highest score.
"My first heat was really tough so I was relieved to get a good one this afternoon on that peak," Fierro said. "The only hazard were the seaweeds, it was super tough to go through them and I even had to pull my leash on that good wave to be able to surf it properly. I'm already further into the event that I reached last year so every heat now is a bonus."
Another former World Junior Champion, Japan's Mahina Maeda continued the trend of goofy foots ripping the perfect little rights of the wave factory of Pantin. Spending the summer in Europe allowed her to get more experience in the shifty beach breaks the region is known for and could pay off in Pantin as she tries to better a best finish of equal 9th.
But the most impressive surfer on that very same peak was undoubtedly Tia Blanco (PRI) who claimed the two highest combined heat totals of the event so far, a 14.66 first, then a 16.00 later this afternoon.
Reunion Island's Cannelle Bulard (FRA) continue to show signs of her great form and took part in the gang of goofies destroying the Pantin lineup as well. Highly consistent in her last five events, this week is a real test for Bulard as she's surfing against some of the best surfers in the world for the first time since she got back into competing.
The Pull&Bear Pantin Classic Galicia Pro is scheduled from August 27 - September 2, 2018 at playa de Pantin, Galicia / Spain.
