Date: 2014-09-19
KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu has hailed grand salutes to the first African Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Inkosi Albert Luthuli, the former president of the ruling party.

Mayor Mthembu, who attended the launch of Tourism Month last friday, said KwaDukuza has one of the greatest story history has to tell.

He was joined by the KwaZulu Natal MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, Mr. Mike Mabuyakhulu and other government leaders at the home of the late tribal Chief and political activist as part of immortalizing his name and spirit at the official launch of the 2014 Tourism month.

"Many facts about Luthuli still remain in his family home; it is a fitting tribute today for us as government, working together with KwaZulu Natal Tourism to visit the Luthuli Museum to immortalize his spirit".

Mthembu hailed the late tribal Chief, legendary. "We take the fullest pride in paying tribute to this outstanding leader who contributed immensely to the radical political transformation agenda during his tenure as a leader of the ruling party and a as a man of authority as a tribal Chief. His life will continue to inspire the people of South Africa".

"History cannot be rewritten without mentioning Chief Luthuli as one of the greatest leader in Africa after being acknowledged by the international community for his outstanding leadership during the times of the draconian rule of the apartheid government.

The late political activist defied discriminatory laws during apartheid. He was awarded the 1960 United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights for organizing non-violent actions against the apartheid system. He died at the age of 69 on 21 July 1967.
