A Cornerstone of Education

A Cornerstone of Education

Date: 2014-07-04
Cornerstone Remedial School, along with the Parent Support Group Durban North, held their very first Sports Day on the 21st June 2014. The mounting excitement in the weeks prior to the event, exploded on Saturday morning as the kids arrived raring to go. In truth, all the kids were winners - we, the parents and the Teachers of Cornerstone, were astounded by their enthusiasm and we are all so very proud of our children.

Events included Sprints, relay, egg and spoon, tug of war. Every kid performed to the best of their abilities and were rewarded with medals and a Trophy for the winning House, Sapphire.

Cornerstone is a remedial school based in Durban North, with the sole intention of educating children who need a little extra attention. Classes are kept very small with a maximum of 10 students at a time. It is important for children to still acquire the social interaction with other children, but the class is small enough to have focussed, one on one teaching. Cornerstone follows the traditional government syllabus, but is taught with your child's interest at heart in order to ensure optimal education and successful learning. We focus on using a variety of teaching methods that will optimize your child's scholastic performance and stimulate their intellectual and personal growth.

To assist the Principle, Calvin Pienaar and the teaching staff the PSG (Parent Support Group) was formed. Their main function is to mediate between the Parents and Personnel of the school. And I quote; "When school personnel and parents work together in a Parent Support Group, they complement each other's strengths and gain a common vision towards improving the school - all for the betterment of your Childs education..." This mediation however does not extend to any monetary issues between the Parent and the school.

The PSG is also here as a support group for those parents and children, that are in need of spiritual support. In other words - we are here to give advice, for a shoulder to cry on or simply to chat, in strictest confidence. For any information on our school, please feel free to contact us info@cornerstoneschool.co.za.
