This past weekend his Royal Highness King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu celebrated his 69th birthday with the full pomp and ceremony that befits a king.
After treating 300 or more 'Gogo's' to a slap up breakfast, he was venerated by a thronging Amabutho with ululating Izintombi and a vibrant Isiphithiphithi in full traditional regalia and festival dress.
The Defence Force and the Police Force provided a resounding National Salute and the crowd settled in to hear the message from the birthday message from our King.
I know that my Zulu is a little rusty, however I heard it from reliable sources that the King spoke out against the constitution with what could have been interpreted as frustration. Reading between the lines you would be forgiven for thinking that he too was suffering from the leadership problems we are all being affected by with the State Capture issues that are plaguing our nation.
When all was said and done the crowd were in very high spirits and everyone was happy and positive. The Zulu dancing and celebrations went on into the night with a Gala Dinner that was set up like the Grand Ball of Cinderella, only I had to leave before any glass slippers turned back into flip flops.
Till next year's big bash, where the King turns the big seven oh, it shouldn't cost you too much. Many happy returns Ndabezitha.
