Mthembu, KwaDukuza's first citizen, publicly encouraged the use of libraries as he sees them as the reliable sources and fountains of knowledge. He also explained that libraries keep the most important information and history of this country for the current and the future generations to benefit from. "We are united in diversity, our children must be well informed of their origin and culture, so that we do not lose focus and direction as a nation", he said.
In his address, Mthembu outlined that this highly educational project aims to keep young people off the streets and introduce them to the world of soft skills training. The youngsters will now be exposed to the sophisticated use of computers, internet, reading material like the newspapers and other information friendly resources.
"This initiative will mostly benefit the previously disadvantaged communities. It is of crucial importance that we all work as a collective to encourage our kids, the youth of South Africa in general and KwaDukuza in particular to grab and embrace opportunities of this nature as they come" , the Mayor said.
The Mayor also appealed that learners should receive messages about HIV/AIDS at an early age through such technology.
Mthembu, the local Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS) Champion, further pronounced that this initiative proves to be a well-orchestrated platform conducive for a sustainable future for all. "Our political differences must not in any way hinder and impede the concept of service delivery", the Mayor concluded.
