F1 Report

Date: 2014-06-13
It had to happen sometime as the hottest rookie on the circuit, Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, claimed his first chequered flag Grand Prix victory in a race filled with drama action and excitement this pat weekend.

At first it looked like the silver arrows were going to make it to their seventh win in a row when suddenly both drivers reported power loss in their Mercedes-Benz's. This closed the gap with the field and the battles began in earnest. Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire with brake problems.

That left Rosberg to hold off the crowd of faster cars led by Sergio Perez in his Force India followed by Red Bull drivers Ricciardo and Vettel and Williams's driver Filipe Massa.

The pressure mounted and at the last moment disaster struck and Massa clipped Perez's car sending them both crashing spectacularly into the barrier. Fortunately nobody was hurt and Vettel skimmed past the careering cars to take third place on the podium behind Nico Rosberg in second.

So Red Bull creep up in the points to Mercedes' massive 258 with their 139 points followed by Ferrari with 87.

Rosberg holds top spot in the Driver's log on 140 points, his teammate Lewis has 118 while Ricciardo claimed third place on 79 points.

There is still a long way to go but this Canadian upset makes it that much more exciting. Read about the Austrian Grand Prix taking place on Sunday the 22nd, in The Bugle.
