Long And Strong - The GWM STEED 6

Long And Strong - The GWM STEED 6

Author: Tomas Yoko
Date: 2014-12-26

At first sight I knew that the new Steed 6 from GWM was going to be different in so many ways. The exterior styling presented a bold new look with a chrome finished louvered grill that hinted at the power under the hood.

I had the Steed 6 Xscape at my disposal and I was keen to put it to the test. The styling had already impressed me with its buff wheel arches and robust looking roll bar. Running boards and 16-inch alloy wheels are standard on this model. The LED strip lights and bright headlight clusters added to the confident, aggressive expression on the face of this exciting new model.

It had attitude, poise and an air of confidence, which, I was about to discover, went further than its good looks. The full leather interior welcomed my posterior and presented me with a practical, uncluttered instrument panel. Functional and comfortable, the Steed 6 Xscape is a long wheelbase, luxury double cab bakkie that the South African public will surely fall in love with. I received such good compliments and genuine interest during my test drive with all my friends expressing their appreciation for the vehicle.

My test model comes standard with a long list of equipment including climate control, a radio and CD player with Bluetooth capability and an on board computer that gave me all the info I wanted including a tyre pressure monitor that gave instant pressure and tyre temperatures.

GWM have kitted the Steed 6 Xscape out with so much stuff, dual front airbags are on top of the list and ABS brakes with EBD are standard in the whole range, the Xscape takes it up a notch or three with six airbags, automatic lights, an electronic stability system (ESP) with Hill-start assist. Automatic wipers and electric seat adjustment add to the very plush luxury environment.

Driven by GWM's Euro-IV compliant 2,0-litre VGT turbo diesel engine, a direct-injection, variable geometry turbo motor that delivers 105 kW and a substantial 305 Nm. Coupled to a six speed manual gearbox and delivering excellent fuel efficiency figures reported at 8,8 liters per 100 k's.

For a chance to test-drive one, or any of the GWM range, contact GWM Tollgate on 031 202 3333 or visit their showroom at 591 King Dinuzulu Road, Berea.
