There is a new number in town. 222. As in 222 kilowatts. As in the brand new 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine that Ford has just dropped into the updated Ranger lineup and which has the team at CMH Ford Ballito practically bouncing off the showroom walls.
The new Ranger Sport is the headline act here, slotting beautifully into the range between the XLT and the Wildtrak and arriving in both Super Cab and Double Cab body styles. In Double Cab 4x2 guise with the 2.3-litre EcoBoost and 10-speed automatic, the Sport lands at R839 600. Step up to the Diesel 3.0 V6 4WD Sport Double Cab and you are looking at R995 000 of properly serious bakkie. Both are paired exclusively with the slick 10-speed automatic transmission and both will make you reconsider everything you thought you knew about what a petrol bakkie could feel like on an open stretch of tar.
The Wildtrak Double Cab also gets the 222kW EcoBoost treatment in 4x2 form at R899 000, while the 3.0 V6 4x4 Wildtrak Double Cab holds its ground magnificently at R1 070 000 with that magnificent 184kW/600Nm V6 turbodiesel doing what it does best.
For those who simply want the most capable Ranger money can buy without going full Raptor, the Tremor Double Cab now runs the V6 turbodiesel at R1 039 000. A significant upgrade that Tremor fans have been quietly requesting for some time.
The Raptor, naturally, remains in a category entirely of its own at R1 299 000 with its twin-turbo V6 producing a thunderous 292kW.
Sales Manager Mbuyiselo Khuboni, also known as MK, and his team at CMH Ford Ballito are ready and waiting to put you behind the wheel.
