My Heritage

My Heritage

Date: 2015-10-16
A solo exhibition of works entitled My Heritage by Hilary Grant-Currie is currently on display at Longmynd Art Gallery, 24 Old Main Road, Hillcrest where it runs until 28 October 2015.

Taking inspiration from her environment, Grant-Currie work investigates the relationship between the artist, and her surroundings, capturing her dependence on, and love of nature, especially the rocks, aloes and trees, found in her immediate surroundings.

The artist views her surroundings and the natural elements in them, as part of her heritage, passed on from one generation to the next. Acting as a reminder of her past and a physical representation of her present, these artworks transform her surroundings into treasured objects: treasures filled with history, echoing her respect and love for that which she embraces as her heritage.

Drawing with self-produced charcoal, the collected and burnt matter is no longer a static element just observed, but an active co-participant, each producing its own individual marks, making the art not only an expression of the artist's inner landscape, but also a physical expression of her outer landscape.

Grant-Currie, who graduated with a BA Fine Arts degree and a Teachers Diploma from Pretoria University, has been involved in art in one way or another for the past 34 years. Her sensitivity to and passion for nature and her environment is expressed in her work. She captures the diverse rhythms, textures and colours of our country. She is based in Hluhluwe; and works and exhibits extensively in the Highway area and Midlands.

My Heritage can be viewed at Longmynd Art Gallery - located off the beautiful inner courtyard at 24 Old Main Rd Hillcrest, adjacent to Vicky Cristina's Restaurant.

The purpose built gallery showcases an interesting, diverse selection of traditional, contemporary and modern art by early and mid career artists as well as fine investment art by SA Masters. Original bronze sculptures and ceramics by internationally acclaimed sculptors are on permanent display. New works of art are regularly featured in the gallery and group and solo exhibitions take place throughout the year.
