Through My Eyes

Through My Eyes

I love this little community that I live in. The beautiful people that live here, the confidence they exude and the big lives that most of them live.

In the last twenty-two years that I have lived in Ballito it has seen some major transformations. People have come and gone, each leaving a lasting legacy. Some making beautiful improvements, while others leaving a mess. Never mind - it's the price one pays for development.

Never the less, in the last twenty years Ballito has evolved and become the sweet tourist destination it is today, as well as the place where people want to move to, to raise their families.

If you have recently moved into Ballito, there are a few musts I have to recommend; firstly you have to try a wild winter dip in the cool Ocean, but hurry as summer is on its way.

Then a real must is a sunrise stroll on the promenade, meet the locals at six o'clock in the morning and marvel at the picture perfect image of the golden rays on the horizon. Oh and don't forget to take a 'selfie' and tag all your new friends on Facebook.

Next, you have not lived unless you have done the famous Ballito sundowners on the beach. This is a perfect way to wrap up the week, all you have to do is pack a few snacks into a basket, a chilled bottle of bubbles or drink of your choice and head down to the nearest beachbest time for sun downers at this time of the year is around four pm. You will find the beach empty of holidaymakers and this is the time most locals head out to the beach so it is an impeccable time to meet new friends.

But there is no better way to meet the locals and join the happy family of fun lovers than to attend the monthly Wine Market at Hotel iZulu. Here you will be able to let your hair down and party to the freshest jazz sounds of Afritude.

On the last Sunday of every month Hotel iZulu opens its doors and invites you to indulge in an opulent feast. The Wine Market is essentially a food and wine pairing celebration of local produce supported by some of the finest South African wines.

Owen and Jackie Williams are the passionate hosts and owners of Hotel iZulu. It is through their perseverance and warm hospitality that the Wine Market exists today, almost five years after it's launch.

There is no denying that this unpretentious party held around the pool of the majestic Hotel iZulu, underneath the magnificent Palm trees, is one of the locals favourite places to unwind.

Every month we get to catch up with friends and familywhether you choose to invite ten people or have an intimate foursome with your 'besties'you are able to entertain in style with really delicious fare and live music.

Sure Ballito has some challenges and maybe the rapid growth spurt is not ideal have to admit that the traffic jams and the road works are driving me to the brink of road rage, but I know that we live in one of the most magnificent places on the planet.
