When last were you really happy, I mean like glowingly ecstatic, beaming from head to toe The last couple of weeks have been awesome and many things contributed to my general peachy state of mind. So much so that one of my friends recently chirped, "Why are you always so F@%1ing happy "
Well there are too many reasons, where do I start With Jacob gone my happiness levels are overflowing. But seriously, how can we stay happy in these tough and turbulent times
Here are a few ideas someone shared with me recently, she said, "Happiness comes from what we do." You know that the happiest people are the people who love what they do, so if you don't love what you do, this is the time for change, jump in and live life - remember that it's about really living and making memories with people we love.
We derive more happiness that is long-term from experiences such as vacations rather than from possessions. At least that is my belief.
She said, "Happiness comes from a positive attitude and optimism." So you have to decide to be happy today, go on chase happiness, because by actively deciding that life is good, it changes our perception and makes life better, and apparently it helps you live much longer! Happiness comes from living in the NOW. The past is the past; we can't change it. But we can rob ourselves of our present happiness and good emotional health by hanging onto old regrets, grudges, and pain.
My friend also said that, "Love and partnership are critical for a happy life." Being happily married and happy in general is the remedy for all illnesses.
We don't have studies on how marriage or long-term relationships affect life span, but we don't have to be scientists to figure it out on our own.
"Life goes on regardless," she said. People who adapt and change with the times are much happier. It's part of having a positive attitude. Instead of fearing change embrace it and own it.
She added, "Be useful and help others." Being kind and helping others gives you a sense of purpose, and it fights depression and anxiety.
"Always be open to learning new things!" Being curious makes life more interesting and fun. And it helps you stay engaged with life.
"Be present," she often reminds me. When life is enjoyed in the moment, it's just better and people who live in the moment tend to live longer, happier lives!
When we disconnect from the mental chatter (the past, future, worry, expectations and judgements), we are able to approach life with greater perspective - we tend to see the opportunities, instead of carrying around the weight of worry and mental baggage.
"Eat well, sleep long and love passionately!"
Remember, you will not be graded for it, just do your best and give me one big smile.
