Through my eyes

Through my eyes

Author: Kasia Yoko

Last week while chatting to a Durban blogger, Aarthi Maharaj, I was asked to please raise awareness around our perceptions of body image and how sad and twisted our ideas have become about what we look like and what we should look like.

Blogger Aarthi Maharaj from 'Your Face Is My Canvas' lamented over our image conscience society and how we have lost touch with reality in a fundamental way. She said, "Kasia, please you have to talk to your readers about image consciousness, and get them to see that all the invasive treatments on the market today will just damage their natural beauty."

For years I have been dodging the peer pressure to have stuff done to me and my body and I have to admit that on a few occasions I have succumbed to this pressure.

Nothing bignothing too invasive or painful, just a little laser and a few sessions of the facial needling, however I am overwhelmed at how much pressure there is to have wrinkles and cellulite removed.

"Oh Kasia you would look so good with a bit of tint on your brow and a eyelash extensions, you should really think about it, it would just lift your face." I was recently told.

"Why " I replied.

I guess tinting my eyebrows and putting a few extra lashes on my eyes would not hurt me but I have seen what happens to ladies who just react badly to the lashestheir own lashes start falling out. Have you seen those eyes with balding lashes Oh I think I will skip that session.

"Oh, you will feel so good about yourself." Was another motivation. I wanted to argue and ask, how a few eyelashes could give me such power but I dropped it, instead I have decided to look after my prized Godly possessions I have been given and not succumb to any peer pressure no more.

Instagram is my new big loveI have so many amazing people globally that have the same interests as me and we share images of our lives. Well one of my newest Instagrammer 'acquaintances', who sneaked his way into my inner circle, is a plastic surgeon form Los Angeles. He specialises in Brazilian Butts and shares some images for the whole world to see.

In the last couple of months I have seen 'butts' and I do not mean just any bums, I mean serious butts and I have not stopped scratching my head. Why do women want to do that to themselves Why would anyone want to pay $7000 (equivalent to R10 000) to own an elephant size bum Oh and it looks seriously painful.

But this is where it all starts going wonky for me because if you change the shape of your bum, you will have to work on those imperfect breasts and that means that you will have to take that fat out of your stomach and pump it into your breasts because as we all know silicone is so 80's and proven to be carcinogenic.

And then you will have to consider those essential facial fillers, and the expensive creams and secret potions to keep the years at bay. And all your hard earned money will be poured into a consciousness that has no shelf life because lets be frank once you start messing with the original creation, you hardly ever achieve the desired fit.

We all know that self love is the only remedy for growing old gracefullyself love is pretty easy to attainand trust me self love doesn't mean that you will love what you see in the mirror. It just means that you appreciate and respect yourself in the body that you are in because believe me if you don't, then no amount of butt fillers, nips and tucks or extensions will give you the confidence to stand up in this world and say:

"I'm Ok"

Have a fabulous week everyone! Keep loving yourselves and each other.
