There is so much I still need to learnI mean who knew how fascinating the perfume industry is and who knew that the Oil of Olay founderGraham Wulff came from KZN? It was news to me
And then came Friday and it was the breakfast to beat all breakfasts at Sorisha Naidoo's home in Izinga.
Her Jeans & Bling breakfast was held in honour of the Miss eThekwini pageant and it also featured SABC 3 Divas of Jozi TV show celebrities.
Sorisha's house sparkled and shinedopulence oozed not just from the bespoke interior, crystal chandeliers, beauty queens, television celebrities and esteemed guests. Her home sparkled with new, young hope and talent - so inspiring to see!
However it was the seventh annual Children's VIP Day hosted by theHumanities Divisionof International Bank Vaults (IBV) at the Durban Exhibition Centre on Saturday, that induced all emotions; tears, laughter, love, anger, happiness and such deep-rooted sadness.
I feel such astonishment at the sheer resolve of unwanted, abused and unloved children. How can it be possible that someone would want to hurt a small baby? Or abuse their child? Or heaven forbid abandon and discard their own flesh and blood. I know there are circumstances beyond our control and I understand the logistics, but it still breaks my heart to see so many children in KZN who are in homes, being taken care of by strangers.
This year almost 3,000 less-privileged children from Durban and surrounds were treated to a day ofinteractive fun, treats, games and pampering in the company of entertainment celebrities and sports stars.
The Sewnarain family did it againAshok, Sharoona, Yajna, Rahul and all their family and friends and business associates brought a smile not just to the children but to everyone who was privileged enough to take part in this whole day annual event.
Each year that I attend the IBV Children's VIP Day, is the same. Sure the acts are getting better, the gifts are so much more substantial and there are more children that take advantage of this generous gesture, but each year I am moved to tears seeing all the happy faces cheering the rock stars on the stage.
There are so many people in our communities that are suffering. Children are at the forefront of most domestic abuse. Seeing the little ones, with their sweet stained faces and their grubby, little sticky fingers, I can't help but lament and despairmy heart breaks at the thought of long term damage from abuse and lack of love some of these children go through.
The Sewnarain family take one day out of 365 days, when they put their resources into action. They do it because they are wonderful people. They do it because they are conscious of their position and their actions speak louder than words.
Walking around the big warehouse on Saturday afternoon, I realised the amazing quality of the heart of the Sewnarain family and I have just one word to say Ashok Sewnarain for president! Long live the Sewnarain family!
