Through my eyes

The other day while driving on Dolphin Crescent to the Litchi Orchid to buy bread, the spirit of unity overwhelmed me. I had Wendy driving at 40km/h in front of me. I had Cindy on my tail waving her 'Hellos'. In that short drive I drove past at least three people I knew and it gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling of belonging.
Like John from Gianni's, who is always at work before seven getting his restaurant started for the day, a friendly wave and a distant 'Hello' is all that links us these days but we go back many years in our little village.
Tom, the butcher with his dog Chloe, is a permanent fixture on our morning walk. As is rosy cheeked Alison who half jogs the promenade and never misses a friendly wave and a loud greeting across the sandy beach.
And then there is the Russian lady with her ankle snapper dog. She is on the beach religiously most mornings teaching her dog yoga positions. It is so cute to watch.
There is also the sad reality of the hobos and the homeless. I am not surprised that they are camping on our priceless piece of real estate. I mean lets face it; there are very few places on earth that allow us to enjoy such mild winters, the perfect place, when you are homeless, to set up camp for the cold spell. It still breaks my heart to see homeless people but it gives me a hope that at least they will not freeze to death like hundreds of homeless people do each year in my country of birth, Poland.
We live in paradise; ask anyone who is moving into this area for the first time. Yes, it is hard to make a living here and yes the community is 'clicky' but you do not need a lot to have a fabulous life here, as most of the entertainment is free.
There really is no better place than our beautiful Dolphin Coast. The early morning walk is one of the most magical experiences on the planet. You have to try it at least once. Our mild winters allow us to swim in the sea all year round. The beaches are clean and safe.
Wake up real early, before the sun, and just walk. Go to the beach and welcome the sun as it starts peeping out of the majestic glistening, gold lined clouds.
The people you find on this walk are the same people you will see throughout your day. Even though we might not know everyone's name, it's ok, we are not there to make friends, we come to the beach at that ungodly hour to connect with our maker and it is a magnificent connection, ask anyone.
Besides all the earthly connections we confront, we find genuine gems sprinkled on our path, not just the people who we see (even the grumpy Gautengers) but real gems sprinkled on the sand and free to anyone who wants them.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the newly relocated community members to the Dolphin Coast. I hope you will find this place to be as magnificent as we do!
