After celebrating his 26th birthday in style with a chocolate cake in the Red Bull garages on the 4th of July, Infiniti Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel went on to win the German Grand Prix for the first time in his career.

Having never won on his home soil, Vettel drove an intense race to fend off the two Lotus-Renaults of Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean, filling the podium with Renaults.

It was a quick dash off the grid to the lead in the first corner that seems to have sealed the deal for Vettel, where he nipped in front of Hamilton and his team mate Webber. From there Vettel took control and towards the end of the race managed to endure intense pressure from the Lotus team, finally crossing the line just one second ahead of Raikkonen.

The tyre trouble seemed all but sorted out with the only real incident being when a cameraman was hit by Mark Webber's tyre after it was not properly fitted before he pulled out of the pits. The cameraman was badly injured and was airlifted to hospital.

Vettel soars ahead with his points tally reaching 157, followed by Alonso on 123 and Raikkonen with 116. In the constructor's championship Red Bull strives way ahead with 250 points, trailed by Mercedes on 183. Ferrari lies in third place with 180 while Lotus pick up their pace to 157 points.

The next race is in Budapest, Hungary, on the 28th of July.
