Through my eyes

Through my eyes

"If we look at the world with a love of life, the world will reveal its beauty to us." ~ Daisaku Ikeda, Buddhist philosopher, educator, author, and anti-nuclear activist. Daisaku served as the third president of the Soka Gakkai, the largest of Japan's new religious movements.

Every living being has the same basic wish - to be happy and avoid suffering. Even new-born babies, animals and insects have this wish. It has been our main wish since the beginning of time and it is with us all the time, even in our sleep. We spend our whole life working hard to fulfil this wish.

Since this world evolved, human beings have spent an enormous amount of time and energy improving external conditions in our search for happiness and a solution to our many problems. What has been the result? Instead of our wishes being fulfilled, our suffering continues to increase, while the experience of happiness and peace is decreasing. This clearly shows that we need to find a true method for gaining pure happiness and freedom from misery.

All our problems and all our unhappiness's are created by our uncontrolled mind and our non-virtuous actions. By engaging in the practice of mindfulness, we can learn to pacify and control our mind, abandon non-virtuous actions and their root cause, and thereby attain permanent peace, the true cessation of all our suffering.

The relationships we have with those people around us affect us intensely and are the cause of most of our suffering. However, we can all be builders of harmonious and rewarding relationships. Even if, in order to achieve this, we have to be firm in our determination to do so, even when things don´t look like they are changing. We should not take responsibility for the behaviour of other people, but we can consider the attitude that we are adopting towards them. Replacing a look of disapproval with a look that shines with belief in the potential of their lives, just may be the turning point where one person's decision to change meets the other person's determination to nurture the beginning of a new path towards understanding and harmony.

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi said, "To know oneself is the first step toward making flow a part of one's entire life. But just as there is no free lunch in the material economy, nothing comes free in the psychic one. If one is not willing to invest psychic energy in the internal reality of consciousness, and instead squanders it in chasing external rewards, one loses mastery of one's life, and ends up becoming a puppet of circumstances."

Lets not waste our lives chasing empty dreams. Lets consolidate our energies and cultivate happy endingsto all you beautiful peeps out therestay blessed!
