What's The Issue?

What's The Issue?

Well it might not help the load shedding schedule, whatever that is, but now that Tshediso Matona has agreed to quietly, the state facility that we know as ESKOM will at least be freed from the wrangling of who is CEO and who is going to be CEO. One thing I would like to know and will only find out next year, is how much did they grease his palm with for him to go. Either way it was to be a hefty fee.

There are vultures in the wings hoping to "privatise" ESKOM, and what I am lead to believe is that all they want to do is sell of the valuable assets of the company, allegedly at a fraction of their worth, to buddies and pals of course, and then leave the scraps for whomever to pick up and in so doing create a wonderful opportunity for the owners of the valuable assets to rake in the cash while we the people struggle to keep our candles burning into the dark night.

Power is so important and now more than ever. The rumours of a nuclear power deal with Russia were refuted and then resurfaced and refuted again, however our energy minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson is about to reveal all to parliament. So no more denying that Vladimir will turn on the lights for us once again.

More good news is that an eight month negotiation with state workers looks like it is close to becoming an agreement as Unions seem to be agreeing that 7% is acceptable. We must hold thumbs because all we need right now is some more strike action to drag our battered and bruised economy through another pile of mud and crud.

As whistle blowers go I am very fond of them, in fact they get hero status in my eyes. I know that they don't blow on those whistles to please me, rather as in the case of the Trident whistle-blower, William McNeilly, who spoke out about the danger of Britain's nuclear submarines, they speak out because of their loyalties to mankind being greater than their loyalties to power hungry political organizations. I commend them all. If I had a whistle, I would blow it.

As the heat rises in the political race to our country's next elections, the DA is taking the ANC to task over the heated seat of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. Danny Jordaan was appointed as Mayor of the municipality that includes the town of Port Elizabeth, however the DA contests that he cannot be Mayor of the municipality and President of South African Football Association.

Well there goes Bafana Bafana's chances again. What chances? You might ask. Not only the national teams welfare but the welfare of the sport as a whole. Soccer in SA has been given a bad cut of the deal for too long now and this is just another blow that the sport as whole will have to absorb.

Sigh, where to next I wonder?
