Through my eyes
So it's that time of the year, time to reflect and reminisce about things that were and things that are yet to come. 2020 promises to be a sassy year, a new decade, a milestone in the tapestry of life, a beautiful reminder of how blessed we are to be here on this earth, breathing and hopefully being a valuable member of society.
A new year is like a blank book. The pen is in your hands. It is your chance to write a beautiful story for yourself.I hope that 2020 will be full of positivity for all of you as we embrace the joys and new experiences. Lets be mindful to put away all our troubles and all the pain and start afresh.
We have so much to be grateful for, and it's so important to remember that.
Sometimes I think that we wait until we accomplish something, or we are busy working on many things and think, "once I get this done or accomplish that thing, then I will celebrate." We seem to rarely get around to appreciate what we did, or the family and friends that we have, or appreciate the work that we have and the co-workers we work with every day.
Celebration and the practice of gratitude go hand in hand. The practice of gratitude sharpens our attention for the good and the positive in our lives, which helps us appreciate things that we tend to take for granted. Yet, despite the significant power of gratitude to improve our well being, gratitude has its limitations. It can help us notice the positive, but it cannot eliminate negative events from our lives. No matter how much we practice gratitude we are still bound to experience negative emotions like disappointment, guilt, vulnerability, and grief. It's life!
A large part of the blessing of overcoming so many challenges in my life is that I take nothing for granted. Everything is a gift - every step I take I am grateful for and every time I complete a task, finish a project come to the end of the day and can still smile at my self in the mirror - I celebrate. The time doesn't really matter - just being able to go from the starting line to the finish line is a glorious celebration - and what a fabulous metaphor for life. Showing up, doing everything with a heart, and celebrating every step along the way.
I believe it and I live it! Life is a celebration, find anything however small it might be, that brings you peace, laughter, happiness, and reflection and cherish that. Embrace life now, 2020 is almost here and it will bring some happy surprises.
