Through my eyes

Through my eyes

Author: Kasia Yoko

As we celebrate women this August, we are reminded about how far the sexual revolution has come in such a short space of time. With the #metoo campaign pioneering the movement of accountability in recent years, we are all victorious because someone, somewhere, was brave enough to stand up and be heard, regardless of the punishment and retribution her action would spark.

And as we move into a space of love and acceptance, I would like to take this moment to remind all those wise and erudite women out there, those dishing up the free help messages, the motivational speakers, the life couches and agony aunts, your painstakingly poignant advice and suggestions are heard loud and clear, but you need to just back off!!!

And I do mean, back the hell off, life for every women I know is tough right now, whatever we are dealing with, our coping mechanisms are stretched to the hilt and your advise is often not tailor made for us, our individual scenario. So instead of giving me that pep talk, see how you can help and maybe, just maybe, instead of talking you could just listen for a change !

It might sound harsh and heartless, but I honestly do not mean it to be so, I'm just fed up with all the advice, the instructions and directions. Social media bombards us with all kinds of "Daily Motivations", from how to speak to your dog to how to be a better wife, personally; I can't for the life of me think how long I can stand this "abuse" We (and here I speak for most of my sisters) all we really want is to make it to Friday.

We want to know that our kids are happy and in good mind frames, we want to stick to those diets that we have planned to do at the beginning of the year, we want someone to fix that leaky drain in the bathroom and we want a quiet moment in the evening to sit back with a glass of wine and take a deep long breath.

We want simple things in life like happy husbands and clean homes and maybe for someone to cook supper once in a while. We want fellowship and deep meaningful friendships with like-minded individuals that get us, even when we doubt your own emotions. We want uncomplicated relationships and time for ourselves. Is that too much to ask for Oh and please don't tell me how to do it, OK

I hope you are having a little giggle, it's all innocent banter on a rainy Tuesday morning -meant to be taken with a dash of angry Tequila. Ask Tom for the recipe.
