Through my eyes

Through my eyes

Author: Kasia Yoko
Date: 2019-02-22

"You see, it's not what's happening to you now or what has happened in the past that determines who you become. Rather, it's your decisions about what to focus on, what things mean to you, and what you're going to do about them, that will determine your ultimate destiny." By Tony Robbins

Life is a cycle of some tragedy intertwined with comedy. If you get really close and look at the details of any situation, you will be alarmed at the tragedy you see. However, if you back up and take it in from a greater distance, with some context to go with it, the same situation can become funny.

It's the same situation, but it's what you focus on.

Things will always go wrong in our lives. And, it being our life, we tend to live in our own 'close-up' version all the time. Sometimes, we need to develop a broader view of things. There is a thin line that separates laughter and pain, comedy and tragedy, humour and hurt.

Recently while spending time with a friend who is terminally ill, we found comfort in joking around and making fun of silly little things. We giggled and joked and made light of the inane, we even clowned about his dreaded illness.

It was only when we decided to change the mood that the air around us grew lighter and we no longer felt the heavy sadness. While tragedydeals with the fortunes of heroes in adversity, comedytakes a light look at situations with no threat tolife.

While we move further and further into the 2019, the comedy of life takes on a new meaning and the tragedy of daily events takes on a different role. We need to not take life too seriously. As long you do no harm to others, this journey is supposed to be enjoyed in the true spirit of happiness, irrespective of all the events in our lives.

If there is one thing that I have learned in the last fifty years on this earth, it is that if you want to be happy, you have to let go of the part of you that wants to create melodrama. This is the part that thinks there's a reason not to be happy. You have to transcend the personal, and as you do, you will naturally awaken to the higher aspects of yourbeing.

"Life,"Charlie Chaplin wrote long ago, "is a tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long-shot." It is our responsibility to see the bright rainbows and smell the ocean breeze and recognise that we are powerless in this cycle of life and death and only through comedy can we see the tragedy unravelled.

I hope you have a super happy week with no dramas.
