The thieves and tsotsis will take it all
My head nearly snapped right off my neck this week, what with all the political turmoil and radical shockwaves that were sent throughout the world. I didn't know which way to look.
The runaway forest fires in Sapin, Portugal and California really needed the hurricane, cyclones and torrential rains of Durban, Ireland and Queensland Australia.
With the economy constant under attack, the poor get poorer and now even the rich are getting poorer. Light at the ed of the tunnel in an accounting system that measures gross domestic product and factors in theSustainable Development Goals. Suddenly we have a comment like "The genuine progress indicator deducts costs of environmental damage and social ills from economic performance." This "genuine progress indicator" puts a poor light on some of the world's largest corporations, particularly fossil fuel and commercial food companies, which are taking out more than they are putting in. It's a long tunnel.
Listening to the war between Western main Stream Media and Russia Today and I can't help but hang my head in shame for the Americans. The laughable reports of Russian interference in the American elections have come up with so much egg for the delusional politicians who are trying every low trick in the book to blame Russia for anything and everything, the stream of lies that flow from presenters mouths, still they persist, even when they now present such an embarrasing figure, it is not even funny anymore. Then Boris gets involved an dmakes himself look twice as stupid as anyone else.
Back home our politicians aren't faring much better. No sooner was Jacobs corruption charges reinstated than the dragging process of the law saw Zuma's lawyers asking for a chance to make fresh representations.
Then the South African Social Security Agency raised questions about the appointment of the Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini's sister, Pearl Bhengu, as acting chief executive. This is not what transparency is supposed to mean. Hello, we can all se what you are doing! It's a mess and they will probably get away with it.
Just as Jacob reshuffled his cabinet one more time, he may have bitten off more than he can chew with what has been seen as a declaration of war against the SACP when he removed Blade Nzimande. Some are saying that this is the death of the ANC, and that Jacob is sacrificing this great organisation just to achieve his goals, one of them being the trillions of Rands nuclear deal with Russia. His cabinet shuffle is said to be designed around completing the deal.
Some indication of where we may be heading comes from the Democratic Alliance with the first ANC Councillor actually being arrested by the Hawks and Johannesburg City's Group Forensic and Investigative Services. They bust a Kaalfontein Mayor selling off property that wasn't his to sell, illegally, and pocketing the cash.
If we don't stand up together against the thieves and the tsotsis we will have nothing left to stand for.
