Through my eyes

Through my eyes

Author: Kasia Yoko
Date: 2017-08-25

I would like to thank everyone who has phoned, emailed and messaged me with encouragement and support. I am truly blessed to have you all in my life and I would love to take this opportunity to acknowledge each and every one of you!

The past week has seen a tough couple of days I have to admit. My iPhone was stolen and on top of that I have quit smoking (again).

Oh how liberated I am feeling right now! I mean, don't get me wrong, it has been a true rollercoaster ride, dealing with these feelings of inadequacy and failure, helplessness and despair all mixed into one. It is quite astounding how quickly we are able to adapt and deal with it though.

The stolen cell phone was a huge deal for me as I am sure it would be for many of us. I use my phone for all my social media updates and my emails, so I am struggling big time right now, as I am not a big techie, and have never liked the administrative side of my working tools, therefore I am now really paying for it.

What iCloud account

What do you mean my password

Oh what a mess!

Yes a big mess but also a blessing, for the first time in forever I am present. No posting, no checking, no updating, no communicating, just a peaceful space.

I also stopped taking photos of everything. I love sharing my life on social media and taking photos of those everyday blessings are the norm for me. I wanted to take pictures of absolutely everything, because if it wasn't broadcast to the world, did it even really happen

I am also a little grateful that not everyone can reach me, I mean just last week I received a Whatsapp from a complete stranger who literally told me to tell my husband how to write his column. Really!

My phone addiction became really scary before I could even notice it. I started responding to emails as soon as I got them. If it was the weekend, I'd still answer. It was an illness and I couldn't cure it. I was a slave to my work inbox. As soon as I saw the email I was basically incapable of thinking about anything other than answering it and taking care of the "problem" it represented in my head.

My days were spent with my phone by my side and I knew it was wrong. With my phone gone and the initial panic over, it was not long before I realised that we don't need to be consciously focusing on something all the time. Sometimes we just need to float along.

These past few days, I've walked slower and breathed deeper. I'm not saying I'm happy my phone was stolen - I miss it. Not having access to my email all day has caused a few slight waves of panic, and Istillfight the urge to photograph everything, however my withdrawal from the constant distraction is over and I am enjoying a time of peace.

So if you are trying to reach me. Be patient, I will be back on line soon.
