What's the issue?

What's the issue?

OK, so by the time your read this the elections will be under way or will have already been counted and collated and the winner announced. If they are under way then there are a few things you must be aware of. KZN people are known to kill over the vote. We are notorious down here in KZN for this and whether there is a police constable standing next to you or not, I would keep my vote secret and not do any campaigning for any party on the day. Wear white, carry your own black pen and whatever you do don't take a selfie in the poling booth with your ballot paper in the background. It is illegal and if they find it on your phone and you voted for the wrong party, well just know you have been warned.

Once you have checked that the ballot paper is stamped and your pen has indelible black ink in it make your cross wherever you like and breathe a sigh of relief. You have done your civic duty and we can now get back to being friends with everybody and carry on with our lives.

If you are reading this and you already know who our president is going to be for the rest of the year then the election is over and you can come out of your house now.

But voting is just the beginning of the civic duty you have as a responsibility to yourself, your family and your fellow citizens. Maintaining a vigil watch over the political candidate that has taken or been given power by you is an on-going process. Sure the media will help where we can, Thuli will inform you of the bigger issues but there is a level of governance in your local council where you can get involved and make a difference. So don't be a stranger to the political process and don't be like those politicians you only see at voting time. Keep a watch out for the goings on in your local council. Write letters to the mayor and his team telling them of your grievances, concerns ideas and remember to praise them once in a while because serving the public is a very difficult task when you do it properly. When you do it well it can be really rewarding, you could find yourself in an Olympic size swimming pool with a hundred aircon units in your own homestead. But done properly you will feel a sense of accomplishment and well being that does not come from your physical being but your spiritual one. Serving the people is a selfless job that is a reward in itself. You would never have said, I know.

Elsewhere in the world serving the people can be cause for concern. Ask Vladimir, here is a quote form some market analysts that think they have the low down on the world's economy.

"As strange as it may seem, Vladimir Putin, the bare-chested, horse riding tiger hunter, is about to be taken down by a bunch of accountants." I don't think it is going to be that easy.
