Through my eyes

Through my eyes

Author: Kasia Yoko

"People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself."

-MARCUS AURELIUS

When one door closes, another one opens. This has been said to me so many times in my life and for most parts it's a true story. People come and go, relationships crumble and we move forward to build new friendships with deeper foundations and a more meaningful core. Isn't it amazing when we finally give ourselves permission to move away from people who have been looking down on us or mistreating us. It really is liberating.

There are two major types of fear, which stop us from becoming successful; they are the "fear of change" and the "fear of failure". These two fears are like the shackles that render us immovable, and due to this we act like a child hiding under the bed in fearing of the bogeyman. However, once we courageously decide to take action, it stops being such a big deal in our lives, in fact the relief and realization that our fears were unfounded is like a weight lifted off our backs.

As much as I understand that we are all connected Ń from the smallest living being to the farthest star in the cosmos.I also understand that some connections are toxic and should be expelled from our lives and we should not feel like we are doing anything wrong.

Toxic people defy logic. Some are blissfully unaware of the negative impact that they have on those around them, and others seem to derive satisfaction from creating chaos and pushing other people's buttons. Either way, they create unnecessary complexity, strife, and worst of all stress.

Recent research from the Department of Biological and Clinical Psychology at Friedrich Schiller University in Germany found that exposure to stimuli that cause strong negative emotionsŃthe same kind of exposure you get when dealing with toxic peopleŃcaused subjects' brains to have a massive stress response. Whether it's negativity, cruelty, the victim syndrome, or just plain craziness, toxic people drive your brain into a stressed-out state that should be avoided at all costs.

There are ways of dealing with toxic humans, while sometimes its ok to maintain your emotional distance and just detach yourself from that person, other times you just have to close that door for good.

Regardless of what people think of you at any particular moment, one thing is certain - you're never as good or bad as they say you are. And that, my dear reader, is a true story. I wish you all a toxic-human free week.
