Through my eyes

Through my eyes

"Magical thinking, thebeliefthat one's ideas, thoughts, actions, words, or use of symbols can influence the course of events in the material world. Magical thinking presumes a causal link between one's inner, personal experience and the external physical world. Examples include beliefs that the movement of the Sun, Moon, and wind or the occurrence of rain can be influenced by one's thoughts or by the manipulation of some type of symbolic representation of these physical phenomena."

Recent deaths have pushed me further into the world of magic. My personal reflections turn to magical thinkingoh how easy it is to switch the chaos in my brain and turn on the harp player. Luck. Superstition. Karma. What goes around comes around. These are all magical thoughts that help me explain the world.

Yet one of the most commonly held beliefs is that the soul lives on after the brain and body die.Believing in an afterlife protects us from the potentially crippling fear of our own mortality. It also helps us cope with and grieve a loved one's death.

Ideas of fate, destiny and divine intervention are teleological; part of the mind's search for intentionality in the world.

Every day, we make decisions and act, based on completely unfounded ideas and superstitions - even when we acknowledge that there is no evidence to support this reasoning.

Experiences that defy reason and rationality often occur and question our own systems of logic. When we think magically, we draw conclusions between situations, thoughts, or actions that sensibly have no direct relationship to each other. The imagination, as an intrinsic element in both design and magical thinking, promotes possibility, challenges.

Life isa mystery to us all, however for some believing that everything happens for a reason, is a magical formula to the cruel reality that everything has a sell-by-date and that our existence in this realm is so intensely fleeting.

My personal chaos has provided me with simple starting exercises to prepare my mind for magic.

Using magical thinking can really and truly enchant you: it takes your mind to another space entirely. For most of my readers, you are asking the question, "So, what's the purpose of all this "

Well It's to stimulate your awareness of the many enchantments perpetually whirling around us. It attunes us to our inner voice, and bolsters hope in a bewitching world. This magical thinking practice reminds us that we are the master of the universe, as much a part of the cosmos as the stars and galaxies, and that knowledge is what emancipates us to do real magic.

Sending magic to all of you out there, only those who believe can catch it
