Through my eyes

Recently I was truly disturbed with the amount of damage social media has on vulnerable individuals. We all know how it shapes the ideals of young people, we also know the shortfalls of people posting private images on social groups, which then get shared and misinterpreted without even a blink of an eye, leaving people's lives shattered and their reputation destroyed.
Slowly but surely I'm bowing out of the social media game. Its not serving me and its stealing too much of my time, not to mention money. At a recent Fashion and Film event, I was photographing a model who asked me to send her the photos I took of her.
I assured her that I would find her on Facebook and asked her to please share and distribute the images through her social media platforms, she suddenly looked me squarely in the eyes and said;
"F@ck Social Media!"
I stood back, yes, I have heard people venting at social media before but never with such venom. I nodded my head agreeing with her statement, trying to justify my ignorance to which she said
"You know what Social Media lacks " I shook my head, not prepared to stick out my neck any further.
"Social Media lacks the here and now. We forget that the best networking we could ever do is the networking we are doing right here, right now. Face to face. Smile to smile. Heart to heart."
She made such a valid point! I couldn't argue with her.
A recent study shows that many of us check our social media profiles every 12 minutes and we spend roughly 24 hours a week on our platforms, that is insane but I'm sure its not far off from the truth.
We live in such a beautiful place. Most people work all year to come and enjoy just one week a year on our magnificent coastline, so why do we waste precious time that we could spend on the beach, sitting indoors staring at our screens
Lets be honest, Facebook kills time faster than anything else. Just when you feel like going off, you hit the refresh button, and new feed comes pouring in. Then you "like" and "comment" and before you know it an hour of your life is gone. You might think that you are building relationships by commenting on other people's posts, but you really aren't.
It's all one big con and we are all victims of one big scam campaign. So come on get out and get moving, its so fresh and glorious outside, see you on the beach.
