Through my eyes

Through my eyes

Author: Kasia Yoko
Date: 2018-01-25

Boredom is an "intense experience of time untouched by beauty, pleasure, comfort, and all other temporal salubrious sensations."

Am I just imagining it or is everyone 'Gatvol!' Since my return I am reconnecting with people and my immediate observation is that people have had enough and no amount of down time is going to divert their attention from the raw and naked reality, life is no longer fun for a lot of people and boredom seems to have set in and is here to stay.

For most of us who are feeling "Gatvol!" there are various factors contributing to the sense of disappointment we are feeling at the moment. Money, status, better health... most of us have never had it so good, so why do we all feel so wrecked

The breakneck pace of life that we have adapted to so innocently is slowly eroding our sense of self. Recent research points to our inability to switch off and relax, either because of internal anxieties or those placed upon us by our bosses, by our society or in some cases by ourselves.

How many of us dream of an eternal getaway

I do it all the time. I know that this treadmill that I am on is not sustainable. It will not hold out for much longer, eventually a decision will have to be made between my sanity or another 18 hour stint in front of my computer chasing those deadlines.

Don't get me wrong, my work is super stimulating, I love it, but I feel pulled, strained, stretched, and find no time to joke or chat. The main mode is irritability, impatience, barely suppressed rage, indignation and a cocktail of similar emotions. I don't have physical exhaustion, it's just that the ability to notice, relish, enjoy, gradually leaches away. And a lot of the time I find myself becoming poor company, probably because my all is inwardly focused.

A recent report I read asked some relevant questions; 'Why, in the midst of so much excitement and opportunity, has life satisfaction declined so much Why is depression the most common illness in the Western world And why, when most infectious diseases have been conquered and rates of heart attacks and strokes have been reduced, do so many people report that they are feeling ill

Society tells us we can have it all, be whoever we want to be, without warning us not to embrace the dream too hard, for our own good.

As I move through the labyrinth of my own delusions, I can't help but notice that I am not alone and I'm in good company. The simple fact is that whatever we are chasing is simply an illusion. Sooner or later we all have to realise that we do have a choice to change some parts of our lives, so what are we waiting for

Lets not forget that to be bored with life is, of course, an infantile and depressing thing to say or feel, but to be bored in life, from time to time, that might not be so bad after all.
