Through my eyes

Through my eyes

"Not every outburst of collective anger and frustration is a revolution. Not every defiance and overthrow of an old regime, and its legal edifice, is proof of a successful revolutionary act. The sole guarantor of the success of a revolution is society itself. Herein lies the crux of the dilemma: the performer of the revolutionary act (the agent) needs a revolution so that the act and the agent can be brought into harmony, and so that the results are consistent with the beginnings." - Khalil El-Anani, "Egyptian Revolution Reconsidered"

Soon and very soon our country will face a transformation, regardless of who comes into power. With the worst year almost behind us we must look to the future with a new set of eyes. We must believe that not everyone in our government is bad, not every leader is corrupt and not ever official is crooked.

I am the first to put people straight when they start complaining about South Africa. If you are complaining about this country and its people, its time to leave. Just go! There are beautiful places in the world that will take you 'Foetstoets'do not hesitate, leave.

But if you love this country, stay and help us all get it back on track. When we stand together with love in our hearts and light in our souls, we can achieve miracles. When we stand together we can make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of all who live in this land.

There is just so much good here, so much basic, real emotion. We have such an abundance of cultural worth and a multitude of traditional values, which must be upheld and brought forward.

We have all witnessed the racial divide, regardless of our race and creed. We know who the badass folk in our community are, because you do not have to use insulting words to be a racist. It is not limited to those subtle nuances about the clothes one wears, or car one drives or what they eat. It starts with these innocent basics.

Recently I was introduced to Zoroastrianism, which is one of the world's oldest monotheistic religions - Zoroastrians believe there is one God called Ahura Mazda (Wise Lord). This religion was founded by Zoroaster, also known as Zarathustra, in Persia about 3,500 years ago.

I have been reading up about the religion and found it truly fascinating, especially just how all religions find their roots in just a few fundamental truths.

Zoroastrians believe that human beings are essentially divine in nature and share the spiritual nature of God. So they are not born as sinners nor is there a compulsion for them to be sinful.

Human beings are born pure and have a choice to either follow the teachings of God and remain righteous or follow the ways of the evil and be damned.

Depending upon their choices and their actions, God decides their fate in the spiritual realm. God offers knowledge of righteous conduct and provides instructions for the expiation of sin.

The Zoroastrian's teachings are based on ethics, humanism, logics and goodness depicted on the three Paramount pillars of "Good Thoughts, Good Words, and Good Deeds".

"There is one path only and that is the Righteousness. Compliance with it leads to happiness." It says.

One thing that stood out for me loud and clear was that each person can, (by his or her own mind, personal preferences and free will), select what he or she wants to believe in for conducting his or her life. "Wisdom is man's means for choosing the right or wrong path for living."

Have a wonderful week and look out for each other.
