Madness gripped the world again, this time in Myanmar, or Burma as we English speaking world inhabitants have come to know the country as.
Thwart with years of oppression, first by the English and then by the Chinese and then some more by the Chinese and then even more.
When we travelled Burma it was awe-inspiring. There was no evidence of a racial faction or even racial friction, it was one of the things I liked most about the mainly Buddhist country, yet now genocide spreads its ugly stain on the people as the Rohingya refugees are driven out of their country.
The U.N. call it ethnic cleansing, a term that just does not sit very well with me. I feel for the plight of these people and wonder where the hatred and animosity must come form for people to do this to families, women and children.
Speaking of women, I was supressing some rib rattling gurgles the other evening when news of Grace Mugabe’s counter claims of being attacked by a knife wielding South African model were being spread around the coffee shop where I was taking in my mandatory espresso. I mean I wasn’t there so I can’t say what did or didn’t happen, but it is a little late for this one to pop out of the excuse bag. Her husband really put his foot in it recently when he attested to the fact that the government, or Bob and his buddies, as it was being alleged by a news site, had benefitted from the diamond mines in the Maranga district of Zimbabwe.
Bob spoke of some fifteen billion Dollars, and has been widely quoted as saying “We have not received much from the diamond industry at all. I don’t think we have exceeded $2 billion yet we think more than $15 billion has been earned.” His treaurer is bleeting like a thirsty goat on a hot summers day, he hasn’t received a fraction of that in the countries coffers. But his bleeting must be being drowned out by the Chinese diamond miners who were nationalised, “The state will own all the diamonds, to cut and polish.”
The geriatric leader is reported to have said. Speaking of leaders and I have to mention the bloody idiots messing around on the Korean peninsula. Russia just started test firing ICBM’s and for the uneducated that means Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles. They recently tested their RS-24 Yars missile over a distance of 6 000 kilometres.
Kim carries on testing his missiles and has now stepped up North Korea’s nuclear program as the orange monster, Donald Dump fails repeatedly to find a diplomatic solution. I see him laughing and smiling and rubbing his orange hands together as he does a mental calculation of how much money America is making form the various wars they have going on around the world.
Political peace in KZN took a blow with the recent ruling by the court that deemed the elction of the November 2015 provincial conference as unlawful, and therefor void. A victory for Senzo Mchunu, Cyril Ramaphosa and maybe even South Africa.
