Through my eyes
Date: 2017-08-17
We are half way through August and 2017 is on its way to leaving us for good. I won't miss it to be honest. It has been a year filled with challenges and hardships. 2017 has been filled with economic adversities and political turmoil and its time for it to go!
Last week, while chatting to a friend in Cape Town, I was reminded that things are not as bad as we imagine them to be in our minds. And as I bitched and moaned about my crappy life, my friend asked me to Google an eighty-year-old granny embarking on a journey of a lifetime, in her trusted Toyota Conquest. Julia Albu, form Jakkalsfontein in the Western Cape, left Cape Town on the 16th of June and has made her way as far as Zambia.
Julia calls her 20-year-old Conquest, Tracy, and combined they have 100 years of life experiences, which would make a lot of sense then, to go on such an adventurous journey.
Julia was interviewed by Cape Times, she spoke frankly about her life, she decided on the adventure after recently losing here partner of 33 years. "I have decided that it's time to be the master of my destiny," she told Cape Times, "People look at me in horror when I tell them that I am venturing forth across Africa in my 1997 model, 1600 Toyota Conquest, with close to 400 000km on the clock."
When I read Julia's story, I felt relieved. Thank you God for showing me that there are some individuals living amongst us that are having fun and living their dreams, because to be honest most of the people I know are chasing money and losing sight of the true purpose of our existence.
Oh how I wish I could pack up my ten year old Jag with 50 000 on the clock and just head Northtravel through all the way along the African coast through Mozambique, upupup past Tanzania and Kenya, Somalia, all the way up to Egypt. Just my jammy, the open road and I.
Life has become very serious for most of us and so many things just do not add up anymore, and because I have seen first hand what the serious chase for money does to people, I honestly do not want to be included in that racejust count me out. I am not prepared to be in this space.
Are you with me
Surely I am not the only one who feels this way, there must be an army of us who just want to stop the chase. I guess sometimes we get so caught up in the bad things, we forget about the good.
Come on guys! Text me, email me, messenger me, send me some advice hereI need some direction.
