Well isn't the paying of the Government Grant becoming a real thorn in the sides of almost everybody. Ministers are checking into hospital with alarming frequency and the debacle just seems to go on.
It is no wonder, if you do the maths and you see just how much money there is to be made by the company that gets the job to make the payments, then you will probably understand why there is such a bun fight around the issue.
Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlaminiis pushing so hard for the contract to awarded once again to Cash Paymaster Services, so hard in fact that she is using number one's number one guy to give legal opinion where his opinion is not warrented or required. Even in the face of SASSA Lawyer Trengrove stating that any CPS deal would be unlawful. I was told that each transaction attracts a charge of R16.70. now if you times that by seventeen million you get the monthly charge and if yo times that by 12 months of the year you get a few billion. So that is what it is all about, just in case you were wondering.
News that SASSA knew that it would not be able to make the payments as early as April last year did not seem to shock too many people, however the wrangling just keeps gooing on.
I have to ask where all the competent people are hiding. Are they under their beds, trying their damdest not to help our poor fledgling democracy from imploding I think not.
So the bun fight for the billions goes on and we rack up the failures one after the other. The laughable outcome of our attempt at securing the Commonwealth Games in Durban, where we were the only country bidding, lost us, you and me, the tax paying public the mountain house sum of R118 million. Why, with our impoverished population of struggling households, were we even bidding in the first place There goes a hundred and eighteen million Rands.
Not stopping there, our wonderful State Owned Company Petro SA reported a staggering loss of R15 Billion Rands, yes let me write that out for you, fifteen billion Rands, with the company's senior executives paying themselves bonuses of up to R2,4 million Rand, even while the company is failing. Where are we going
Beyond our borders, American billionaire Mark Cuban has claimed that the world's first trillionaire will make his money in artificial inteligence. Well it doesn't look like he will be a South African.
Talking about making trillions, the nuclear-powered American aircraft carrier is about to dock in South Korea, this after threats of "merciless" attacks from North Korea, should their sovereignty be violated in the joint military drills and excercises along the border regions of the two countries.
And the world turns its eyes away from the attrocities of the Saudi - Coalition war against Yemen, where innocent civilians are dying like flies, much the same in Mosul, the blood on the hands of the US and the UK will probably never wash off.
