Spiritual self-help pioneer Dr. Dyer, who passed away a couple of weeks ago, was a huge influence on people with a need to expend their spiritual horizons. He was excellent at preaching 'Thankfulness is Mindfulness' and that is what drew me to him.
Dyer owned two very distinct statements, the first was, "You are the sum total of your choices." The second was "There is only one moment in which you can experience anything, and that is now, yet a great deal of time is thrown away by dwelling on past or future experiences."
His statement like, "Everything that now exists was once a thought. The greatest gifts that we have been given are our imagination. It all starts with an idea. When there is a calling that you have and you can't let go of that excitement. That is really God talking to you. It is the invisible part of you. It's the soul" that inspire me so much.
One of Dr Dyer's teachings was 'What you focus on expands.' When I read this I totally believed it, it all started with my being utterly convinced that whatever I believe, will happen. It was instrumental in allowing me to let go of the need to listen to the critics, which is handy when you publish a weekly community newspaper.
Although many of my dreams may not happen, so much in my life has come true, so far, I prefer to believe and imagine that it will, rather than 'prepare to be disappointed' - after all, what's the harm in being disappointed?! And I stopped caring what other people said about my ambitions a long time ago! If you don't try, you don't get. Right? And if you don't get, at least you tried.
I believe living with eternal hope is a much nicer way to live - to be filled with the wonder of life, and excited about little everyday things as well as aiming big. Don't you think so too? And coincidentally Dr. Dyer said, "When you are faced with the choice between being right, and being kind, choose kind."
Dr Dyer's fundamental teachings are what I want to share with you today. Something that helps me get up in life and be grateful and I hope it does the same for you:
Firstly - All of life is interconnected.Once we open our minds, we notice that the universe is constantly conspiring in our favour. Secondly - Your mind can heal your body.I have long held the belief that there are really only two emotions fear and love. When we are in fear, there is no room for love; when we're in love, there is no room for fear. And lastly - The universe works in mysterious and beneficial ways.Dr. Dyer believed in sovereign individualism, the eternal human soul and a nondenominational faith in a higher power "God is the highest place within each and every one of us; it's our divine self,"
Dr. Dyer wrote about how he came to understand one of the key tenets of his philosophy: that the past and future are essentially irrelevant to how we live because, after all, the past was once the present, as the future will one day be.
He said, "We are not our bodies, our possessions, or our careers. Who we are is Divine Love and that is Infinite." Rest in peace Dr. Wayne Dyer and may you continue to inspire.
