Through My Eyes

Through My Eyes

Author: Kasia Yoko
Date: 2014-06-20
So last Sunday night after we said goodbye to my dad, having shared a bottle of good red wine and a few Cuban cigars, my husband looked at me and asked an out of character question.

"Do you think I'm a good dad?"

Not really use to getting these self doubt questions from my overconfident husband.

"Sure you are What's this?"

"Well you know I was just thinking if I were to do it all over again would I want to be a different type of dad for my boys?"

That night we spend the rest of the evening staring into the fire. The evening was mild and warm and the mood was pure indulgence.

I guess it is always a bit daunting seeing your own children growing up and thinking, how would they turn out if I were a different person.

We never stop questioning our actions and no matter how together and emotionally prepared we are to become parents we are never going to get it 100% right. I mean have you ever met a perfect parent?

They do not exist. Trust me I have pretty cool parents, and my 'Pappa' is so cool, he is the coolest 'ballie' on the planet but he is not perfect and so what.

I never ever thought about having a perfect dad or swapping this one for a better one. It never crossed my mind.

I guess it is only natural to have self doubt once in a while but whatever you do don't doubt your charms and remember that even if your relationship with your children is strained or tainted, you are just one hug away from a loving union.

Here is to all you dads out there. Remember the most important thing you should do in your life is be good to their mom.

You should be good to their mom even when they're not looking.

"Having a kid is like falling in love for the first time when you're 12, but every day." ÑMike Myers
