F1 Report

F1 Report

Date: 2014-05-16
Coming to Europe presented much hope for the teams wanting to challenge Mercedes' lead, however their fourth one-two finish from Hamilton and Rosberg left no doubt in anybody's mind about Mercedes' dominance.

Red Bull managed to grab three-four with Ricciardo coming in ahead of the World Champion Sebastian Vettel and massing 27 points for the team. They were however 49 seconds behind the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg.

Valtteri Bottas brought his Williams into fifth position just ahead of Alonso in his F14 T Ferrari, which took sixth place 87,7 seconds behind Mercedes.

Again tyre strategies were of paramount importance on the day with Vettel using a three-stop strategy, stopping as early as the twelfth lap.

Valterri brought Williams ahead of McLaren in the points standing with his well earned fifth place behind Vettel who was much more nimble on his fresh rubber.

Ferrari's other driver, Kimi Raikkonen tried to hold off his team mate but his two stop strategy saw him on older rubber and he could not defend against his team mate.

So the teams are being led by Mercedes with 197 points, more than double the 84 points earned by Red Bull so far. Ferrari hold onto third place with 66 and Force India Mercedes creep into fourth place with 57 ahead of Williams on 46.

In the driver standings Hamilton leads Rosberg with 100 to 97, just three points between them, Alonso holds third with 49 followed by the Red Bull drivers of Vettel and Ricciardo with 45 and 39 respectively.

Next up is Monte Carlo, the tight street circuit of Monaco will make qualifying a very important part of winning as usual. Sunday the 25th of May is race day. Read about it in The Bugle and check your tyres at Mathers Fit & Go so you can be a winner too.
