Through My Eyes

Through My Eyes

Author: Kasia Yoko
Date: 2014-02-14
As it happens, I am a big fan of Saintsthere is something special and Godly about individuals who have been sanctified over the past decades. We don't know much about Saint Valentine, but his legacy is pretty conflated. The bloke was a rebel who went against Roman authority and raged against the proverbial Christian organisation. Basically, Saint Valentine was the guy who stood up to authority and said, 'Love will conquer all.' Or something to that effect.

According to one legend, around 270, Roman emperorClaudius IIprohibited marriage for young men, claiming that bachelors made better soldiers. Valentine continued to secretly perform marriage ceremonies but was eventually apprehended by the Romans and put to death. There isn't much in history about him, but his belief in love and commitment is one to be admired.

As I began to research his life, I was painfully slapped with a stunning revelation.Saint Valentine took great risks, went to great lengths, rebelled against authority to preserve love and marriage yet he was single.

In the year 269 AD, Valentine was sentenced to a three-part execution of a beating, stoning, and finally decapitation, all because of his stand and resolve to celebrate committed love.He believed in making a sacrifice in celebrating the lives of others, even if that meant his pain. All in the name of love.

While many of my friends are single and many enjoy this status, there are many single peeps out there that will be spending Valentine's Day on their own.

On this Valentine's Day I want to celebrate the bravery of the Saint who stood up for love and the sanctity of marriage. I don't want to talk about chocolates and roses and gifts, I want to talk about the sanctity of the union between lovers.

Today I want to celebrate love even when it hurts. To celebrate unity even when alone. To remember others when it's easier to think of the self.

That's what Valentine did. And that's what I want to do. Happy Valentine's day, readers! Believe in the magic and the power of lovebecause whether you know it or not you are loved.

Here is a little love poem for all the romantics out there:

Looking For Your Face
From the beginning of my life
I have been looking for your face
but today I have seen it
Today I have seen
the charm, the beauty,
the unfathomable grace
of the face
that I was looking for
Today I have found you
and those who laughed
and scorned me yesterday
are sorry that they were not looking
as I did
I am bewildered by the magnificence
of your beauty
and wish to see you
with a hundred eyes
My heart has burned with passion
and has searched forever
for this wondrous beauty
that I now behold
I am ashamed
to call this love human
and afraid of God
to call it divine
Your fragrant breath
like the morning breeze
has come to the stillness of the garden
You have breathed new life into me
I have become your sunshine
and also your shadow
My soul is screaming in ecstasy
Every fiber of my being
is in love with you
Your effulgence
has lit a fire in my heart
for me
the earth and sky
My arrow of love
has arrived at the target
I am in the house of mercy
and my heart
is a place of prayer
