What's the issue?

What's the issue?

Author: Tomas Yoko
Date: 2013-12-20
As we laid the greatest leader this nation has ever had to rest this past weekend I reflected on a few issues.

One was the booing that Jacob got and how some people took umbrage to the incident sighting a memorial service as an inappropriate place to display this behaviour. Well I disagree, if I were Madiba, I would want the booing to take place exactly as and when it went down. For me there could not have been a more appropriate moment for the nation to voice their discontent than at that moment. And where there is smoke there is fire. For me it is more inappropriate to be smiling and taking selfies with some blond chick that to boo.

The fact that calls for his impeachment are echoing all around the world and the meeting rooms of NUMSA, might be accredited just a little to the booing that made us into the rain-boo nation.

I honestly believe that the ANC has in its ranks a barrage of honest, respectable, deserving leaders, who will be inspired by Madiba to take this country to the greatness it deserves. Or we could rely on Julius to get us there with economic freedom. Free money is a very appealing idea to me. I would love some free money.

A friend of mine pointed out how the total failure of the guy who did all the sign language for the speeches at Madiba's memorial service did manage to achieve at least one good thing, and that was to bring to the attention of the world and its media, the plight of the deaf and dumb of this world. Money couldn't buy that kind of attention. Hopefully something good will come out of it for them.

However there are much more serious issues in the world, one of them being the ongoing war in Syria. I mean come on world. Surely we can do better than this. Surely we can be more human than this. Surely we can put a stop to the senseless act of war. I believe we can, but then I'm a romantic.

The totally disgusting and grisly war that is waging in the Central African Republic is repugnant. I am sickened to my core with the news and images coming out of this country. To think that the superpowers acted against a threat with such enthusiasm and might, but stand back when actual atrocities are being committed on such a grand scale. Where are the interventions this conflict needs? No money to be made there unfortunately.

So while a baboon runs amok in Johannesburg, and the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ draws ever nearer, I urge you to take a moment and eek out a little donation to someone other than the most deserving in your family, give a little to a needy charity, Hospice, Children's Home, Aids Orphanage or some such, even an individual who will cherish the gift, if we all give a little it amounts to a hell of a lot. Merry Christmas everybody!
