What's the issue?

What's the issue?

Author: Tomas Yoko

Walking to the beach I noticed one, then another, then another campaign poster with Jacob Zuma's face encouraging us mere citizens to register our existence with the state so we can vote. So we can cast our ballot, for him to do what with I wondered as I passed another smiling face of our president looking up at me from the dew sodden grass of the early morning.

I reflected at how defacing campaign posters is a criminal offence, and at how some individual disregarded this and ripped the posters off the telephone pole. As my dog pulled on his lead, encouraging me away from the poster of Jacob smiling on the pavement, I reflected at how sad it was that his popularity was waning. There were no tears rolling down my cheeks, However I though at how much potential had been squandered along with all the millions spent on Nkandla, and then some tears were held back. I love this country, I love its people, but I don't love the thieves and criminals who are raking it away from us all one little bit at a time.

Another smiling poster past us by, "Register and VOTE", I though about how Public protector Thuli Madonsela's report had been handed to a 'security cluster' as handing the report to the president would be a bit weird as the report was about the president. Anyway after this confusion was sorted out the report was handed over and Justice Minister Jeff Radebe took it home for the weekend to peruse.

It must be hard for Jacob to see his popularity dwindling like this, but then maybe not. Dali Mpofu just left the ANC and it must be even harder for the ANC to see their popularity dwindling like this. AT one point in my life I thought the ANC was going to save this country. Now I just think. Anyway Dali went off to join none other than the EFF. Now there were tears rolling down my cheeks, but this time from laughter. "We have to accept that addressing the needs of those people (the poor) has to be done at the expense of those who have, so that we can have the hope of achieving stability". This is what Dali is actually being reported to have said. I don't know if he said it but it has been reported that he said this. This after he took an eleven million Rand payout from the state broadcaster, the SABC. Is Dali going to show us the way and give some of his bounty to the people?

No surprise the police pelted the EFF protestors at the Union Buildings with rubber bullets. Anyway Dali is now going to unite with the guy who wears a two hundred and fifty thousand Rand watch and is reportedly facing charges of tax evasion to the tune of some sixteen million Rand. How much money must you turn over to get a tax bill of sixteen bar? Wow. Maybe Julius has a formula for this Economic Freedom he speaks of. I would join that party quick if he did.

On a serious note, hats off in honour of Remembrance Day on the eleventh of November for those who came before us and paid with their lives, so we could enjoy the freedom we have today.
