When I got home I could not shake the overwhelming sadness and horror that gripped me. I thought about how absolutely fleeting my existence on this earth is and how it could have been me. Had I arrived on the scene a few seconds earlier, it could have been me who somersaulted through the air. I failed to sleep that night and when the sun appeared in my window, the overwhelming fear was the still there. A fear I could not explain.
It is amazing how quickly fear can grip your soul and debilitate us. I know that I am not alone, studies show that as many as 20% of the human population struggles with some form of clinical fear or anxiety. Thankfully my condition is a fleeting disorder triggered by sensory shock, give me two days and some peace and quiet and I am as good as new, but I know that there are people out there that live with fear every day and do not know how to shake this emotion.
If you are suffering with anxiety and fear, my heart goes out to you and as much as I understand your pain I also know that there are ways of dealing with fear and ways to beat it.
Here are a few tips that helped me get over my fear.
Live for today. Don't procrastinate. Don't wait for someday. Go after your dream. Give it all you've got, begin now.
Love the people around you and let them know that you love them. The quality of your life depends on the quality of your relationships. Create good times. Forgive often. Express gratitude and appreciation. It's all about love; everything else is secondary.
Believe in your greatness. You are an all-powerful creator. You are an inventor. Don't be afraid to try. Write. Paint. Dance. Sing. Be original. Add value. Put it out there. Celebrate.
Organise your life - Make a to-do list. Do your most important tasks first. Don't put things off because they're difficult. Avoid distractions.
Make your life simple - Say "Yes" to what you want. Let go of what no longer serves you. Live with less. Replace bad habits with good ones. And be at peace.
Do things for others - What you give will return to you tenfold. If you want help, be helpful. If you want love, be a loving person. Give what you want to receive.
And most important of all, be courageous. Replace fear with action. Focus on what needs to get done and do it. Find an accountability partner. Be inspired by others who are doing great things. Do what you have to do. Say what you need to say. Live without regrets. You only have today. Use it wisely. Replace the fear with love.
