Nico Rosberg withstood a red flag stoppage and two safety car call outs to follow in his father Keke Rosberg's footsteps, and win the Monaco Grand Prix.

Monaco is by far the most prestigious Grand Prix circuit and claiming pole almost certainly means winning the event. So it was after a gruelling testing stage and heated qualifying stage that Nico took pole position.

From there he led all the way to the finish claiming the chequered flag. After a mildly disappointing qualifying the Red Bull team of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber applied the kind of pressure this team has become famous for.

Once again the issue of tyres was paramount, this time in connection with an extensive tyre test undertaken by Mercedes-Benz after the Spanish Grand Prix. This sparked a protest from Red Bull and Ferrari, claiming that despite the fact Mercedes-Benz had permission to do the tests from the FIA, the whole test was not done in a transparent fashion and could benefit Mercedes-Benz unfairly.

Tyres are just so important so you are well advised to have yours tested at Kwik-Fit Verulam, call them on 032 533 8502.

This weekend's results add to Vettel's lead in the driver's championship giving him 107 points. Kimi Raikonen challenges with 86 and Fernando Alonso holds third place with 78. Lewis Hamilton lies fourth on 62 pointa and Red Bull's Mark Webber follows with 57. In the constructors standings Red Bull lead the pack with 164 points followed by Ferrari on 123 and Lotus with 112. The next Grand Prix is Formula 1 Grand Prix Du Canada, in Montreal on the 9th of June.
