In October 1996 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, with a tumour that had metastasized to his brain and lungs. His cancer treatments included brain and testicular surgery and extensive chemotherapy, and his prognosis was originally poor. He went on to win the Tour de France each year from 1999 to 2005, and is the only person to win the event seven times. He was a big hero to millions of people. Today he is a total disgrace.
Last week Lance appeared on Oprah, his ninety-minute interview sparked outrage across the globe not only from sports enthusiasts but also from the general public.
I do not much care about Lance, I have watched a few races and I can appreciate the level of fitness and endurance the riders face when entering this competition but after watching Lance come clean - sort off - to Oprah, and the world, I have to admit that I feel sad - maybe sick is a better word.
I lost all respect for Armstrong during the interview. He is so wrapped up in his lies he does not know what the truth is. He is like every other common criminal, like Bernie Madoff, who lives the lie and becomes the lie. His whole life was a lie and he should be banned forever and made an example of.
What this demonstrates is that so many people have succeeded through their lies. People like Armstrong and Bernie, who break all the records, like dishonest politicians who rise to the top, or like fraudulent investors who become wealthy - they are stuck living the fiction for as long as they can keep up the facade.
Their lies become the very fabric of their lives and there's no turning back. It's not that they believe their lies; they're not stupid. It's that they cannot live without their lies. If the truth comes out, then it's all over for them.
Lets face it; Armstrong has proved to be a vile sociopath and the biggest fraud in the history of sport. Just like Bernie Madoff he conned and hurt so many. Today we can honestly say that the truth prevailed and they are being made to pay for all the honest people they destroyed on their road to wealth and fame.
In his interview I could see the con artist. There is no remorse. This guy is so full of himself that he probably thinks he did the world a favour by admitting to his doping. There is no way that he thinks even slightly less of himself after the expose.
Let's be honest, cheating hurts people in the long run and the truth will set you free. Lance Armstrong is nothing but a sociopathic narcissist and if you believed his story, you better be careful as maybe you too are a likely candidate to be scammed.
