Under the might of the CMH group and a couple of independents, MG South Africa has a network of ten dealerships countrywide and we are lucky enough to have one right here in Umhlanga. Speaking of luck, I was lucky enough to take the stunning new MG6 for a weeklong test drive. The brand new research and development facilities in Birmingham cost £45-million and have produced MG's most recent, performance inspired, product.
The new MG6 maintains the inspirational performance from a 1.8 Litre Turbo charged, low CO_ production, Euro 5 engine, which delivers a more than ample 118 kilowatts at just 5 500 revs per minute. This is translated into very smooth acceleration that is harnessed by a firm chassis. The rigid chassis and balanced suspension helped swish the MG6 from standstill to 100 in just 8,4 seconds. The MG6 gripped the road well and performed favourably through the tight traffic circles of my hometown.
The interior is spacious and hints at the art of English luxury, practicality and good measure. The MG6 is well endowed when it comes to safety features. Dual front airbags and side airbags top the list while ABS brakes with EBD gave me the sense of total control when it came to the emergency braking test in my MG6.
Fuel efficiency is the all-important issue and the MG6 is reported to consume just 7,9 litres of fuel per hundred kilometres on average and gets to figures as low as 6,2 litres in extra-urban cycles. The model I tested was filled with extras like climate control, electric windows, and a long list of features you find in more expensive luxury saloons.
